Pick a sensor size and focal length to see how much of the scene fits in the frame, then an aperture and subject distance to see how soft the background gets. Smaller sensors crop in, so the same lens looks longer and blurs less.
- Looks like
- 50mm on full-frame
- Angle of view
- 40° across
- Background blur
- 1.3% of the frame width
How it works: angle of view comes from the sensor width and focal length for a regular (rectilinear) lens. Background blur is the size of the blur disc of a distant background with your subject in focus, as a share of the frame width. Real lenses vary a little, especially close up and with fisheyes.
