How we score and rank cameras
Every number on CameraFits comes from somewhere you can check. We don't accept payment for placement, and a retailer's commission never changes a score, a ranking or the order of a list.
The CameraFits score
The score out of 10 is calculated from each camera's published specs and lab measurements, with the same formula for every camera. It rewards what the spec sheet can show; it is not a hands-on review of handling, menus or image character. Five parts make it up:
When a maker doesn't publish a value, that part is left out and the rest are re-weighted, rather than guessed. A camera needs most of its specs known to get a score at all.
Where the data comes from
Specs come from manufacturers' own spec pages, manuals and press releases. Sensor readout (rolling shutter) comes from independent lab measurements by CineD and DPReview, labelled with the source and the mode measured. When we couldn't confirm something with the maker, we leave it blank instead of filling it from memory or retailer listings.
How guides and the finder rank cameras
Each buying guide weighs the factors that matter for that kind of shooting and says which ones on the page: for weddings, autofocus in dim light, two card slots and stabilization; for sports, burst speed and readout. The camera finder uses the same factors plus your budget, size preference and the lenses you own. The overall score only nudges the order. Spec rankings sort on one measured value each.
Prices
Amazon prices come from Amazon's official product API, are refreshed every hour and are shown with the time they were checked, as Amazon requires. We don't keep Amazon price history. We're adding more retailers; until then, a camera's price is its lowest current listing or the maker's list price.
Compatibility
"Fits" answers come from each lens's mount and the adapters we know about, and from accessories we've checked against a body. If we don't know, we say so rather than guess.
Corrections
Specs get firmware updates and makers revise pages. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we'll check it against the source and fix it. See what's new for recent changes and how CameraFits makes money.
